Day 18

Hii everyone! :) bright and early this morning we left the house at 6.30 to go to Lake Shore. We had our boat waiting for us to take us across Lake Tana. It was about 7 o'clock so perfect timing to see the sunrise, which was so beautiful. An hours boat ride later, we arrived at a penincular where village people lived. We were greeted off the boat by locals, and had to walk 20 minutes through foresty paths and lots of woodland to reach a monastry. The monastries on the Islands of Lake Tana are in the top 10 places to visit in Ethiopia, so we are really glad we had the opportunity to! The monastries weren't like what we expected, but we still had a wonderful time. It was full of very old religious paintings and locals praying. We also had chance to visit a mini-museum, which had old crowns from the monarchs and old religious texts in. After the 20 minute obstacle course back to the boat, we took a 5 minute boat ride to another part of the island. We visited another monastry, which was pretty much the same as the first one, but it was still really good to see. We then got back onto the boat for the hour ride back to Bahir Dar. Han fell asleep in the sun on the boat, which she is now regretting. When we got near Bahir Dar, we saw a group of people crossing the Lake by standing on a platform and rowing, but as there were so many people the platform was pretty much under water, so it looked super scary! We are now in Homland, again, after having some lunch and a famous machiatto. Were going back home soon to play cards and plan for school tomorrow! :) Hope you like our photos from yesterday and today! This has definately been our favourite weekend in Ethiopia so far :) and only 9 days left until home, which we both can't wait for! Especially now as Han's mum brought a puppy yesterday called Willow, so she is super super excited to go home for cuddles with her! Also, Jonny needs to go home and celebrate his birthday properly with his family, so we both have a lot to look forward to! :) xxx
